Brown's Road Map To Cruiserweight Title Shot

Pat Brown's British cruiserweight title win over John Hedges on Saturday has sparked immediate talk of a world title challenge against Ring champion Jai Opetaia, but the 26-year-old says he wants more fights first. That approach makes sense, per a Ring Magazine analysis published Monday, and a carefully curated slate over the next year could sharpen his tools while building momentum at home.

The Ring's John Evans mapped out three hypothetical opponents who would test different aspects of Brown's game and position him for a championship bid by December 2027. First up in March: Aloys Junior, the 23-year-old Londoner with heavy hands and a brash personality. "A meeting of Britain's most promising cruiserweights would be an important clash between polar opposite personalities," Evans wrote, noting Junior's athleticism against Brown's power and amateur pedigree.

Rozicki And Massey Complete The Blueprint

A summer date with Canada's Ryan Rozicki would give Brown a direct measuring stick. Rozicki lasted seven violent rounds with Chris Billam-Smith in June before being retired on his stool, and the 31-year-old brawler has stopped 20 of 21 wins. Brown has shown he can break opponents down methodically or crack them early; Rozicki would force him to react under sustained pressure.

The proposed finale is a December defense against Jack Massey, who dropped Cheavon Clarke twice in June before getting stopped himself in the seventh. Massey went the distance with Joseph Parker and owns a respected European title run, though Opetaia did halt him in six rounds last October. Evans argued that Massey's size and underrated boxing ability would require Brown to solve problems in the pocket and manage his output over rounds.

Brown stopped Hedges in the sixth at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena, delighting a growing fanbase and claiming the vacant British title. Promoter Eddie Hearn acknowledged afterward that finding domestic opponents willing to face Brown could prove difficult, which may push the team to look abroad for the right challenges. Win three fights of this caliber, Evans suggested, and Brown would be more than ready to enter the world title mix before 2028.
