Paddy Pimblett collects $1,000 from Daniel Cormier after World Cup bet
Daniel Cormier handed Paddy Pimblett $1,000 in cash after the United States crashed out of the World Cup, settling a bet the two made before the tournament's knockout rounds.
The UFC Hall of Famer had wagered on the U.S. to beat Belgium in the Round of 16, but the co-hosts fell 4-1 to the Belgians. Cormier paid up when he ran into Pimblett in Las Vegas ahead of UFC 329, as Sherdog reports.
Cormier admits hype got the better of him
Cormier said his confidence spiked after watching the U.S. beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32. "I was filled with unnecessary confidence watching us beat Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sh*t! Bro, I owe you money. I owe you $1,000," he told Pimblett in footage posted by the UFC.
Both fighters are in Las Vegas for UFC 329 at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, July 11. Pimblett returns to the Octagon in the co-main event against Benoit St. Denis after dropping his first UFC loss earlier this year to Justin Gaethje. Cormier works the commentary booth for the card.
Cormier has made bold claims about American soccer in the past, telling Pimblett in another conversation that MLS would surpass the English Premier League if the best American athletes committed to the sport instead of basketball or football.
