Nurmagomedov Jabs Paul After PFL Title Defense

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

Usman Nurmagomedov defended his PFL lightweight championship with a knockout victory, then turned his attention to the promotion's new co-owner Jake Paul with pointed comments about compensation.

Nurmagomedov stopped his opponent via TKO to hold onto the strap, per ESPN, before addressing Paul's involvement with the organization during the post-fight interview. The Dagestan native used the moment to push for improved terms under the new ownership structure.

Nurmagomedov's Challenge To Paul On Fighter Pay

The exchange marked the first public friction between Nurmagomedov and Paul since the YouTube star purchased his stake in PFL alongside co-founders earlier this year. Paul has repeatedly touted his commitment to better fighter compensation across combat sports, making Nurmagomedov's callout particularly sharp.

Nurmagomedov's finish extended his unbeaten record and solidified his status as one of the lightweight division's most dangerous finishers outside the UFC. The 26-year-old cousin of retired champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has now defended the belt twice since claiming it last year.

PFL's next event is scheduled for late August, though no opponent has been confirmed for Nurmagomedov's next title defense.
