Ngannou Backs Himself To Beat Fury Despite His Training Footage Backlash

Francis Ngannou has backed himself to beat Tyson Fury and put a dent into the undisputed heavyweight championship plans.

The former UFC champion is set to face Fury on October 28th, 2023, in what will be his boxing debut. However, the Gypsy King’s WBC title will not be on the line, with suggestions that Fury could overlook his opponent.

Although that may be the case, Fury has signed on to face Oleksandr Usyk for an undisputed bout. And provided that he beats Ngannou, there should be nothing to get in the way of that fight.

And yet, the Ngannou does have plans on spoiling the event. He is working with Mike Tyson in order to get himself in the best possible shape for a massive shock.

Ngannou On Fury

"I don’t know what’s the minimum medical suspension in boxing but I really don’t understand how Tyson can fight in December after what’s going to happen on 10/28," Ngannou

Nevertheless, the perception surrounding Ngannou is that he does not stand a good chance of winning. This was seen in the response to his training footage with Mike Tyson.

The following footage shows Ngannou working on his jab in order to set up the straight right hand. However, those within the boxing community were not impressed by what they had seen. Caleb Plant responded by mocking his technique in the most brutal of ways.

"That’s as awful as a jab can be," Plant said

John Fury On Ngannou

Much in the same way, Fury’s father, John Fury, did not hold back on his scathing comments. He was equally as vocal by calling out Ngannou’s chances by even questioning if the training footage was a form of a joke.

That is not going to play into the narrative that Ngannou has a chance of pulling off a shock. And John Fury’s following comments confirmed as much.

"Just seen Francis Ngannou and Mike Tyson and that so-called trainer what’s got the pads on, seen the open workout. I hope he’s kidding along and he’s playing possum here. I hope that’s a joke and intended to be a laugh. Because if it’s not, he ain’t got a prayer. He ain’t got a cat in hell’s chance. He won’t get out of the first round. It’s probably going to be Tyson’s quickest knockout.

"But you know what? It’s got to be kidology, that. It’s got to be full-on games. Because if that’s what he’s got — well, God help him, he’ll get smashed to bits. That’s all I’m saying, mate. That’s embarrassing. If that’s what he can do on a public workout, don’t bother doing a public workout. It’s a disgrace," Fury stated

Ultimately, Ngannou has nothing to lose since he is expected to suffer a defeat. However, that may give him the confidence to leave everything in the ring, which could prove problematic for Fury.

So can he back up his words? Time will tell how it all plays out moving forward. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
