McGregor Reveals UFC Exit Plan, Bareknuckle Debut Timeline
Conor McGregor plans to retire from the UFC after one more fight, then immediately announce a bareknuckle boxing debut.
The former two-division champion appeared at Hype Italy in Rome on Tuesday and told MMA Mania he will finish his contract with the promotion before crossing over to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, the organization he co-owns. "I'm going to lay down my gloves in that Octagon for my final UFC contract [fight], but not to retire — to announce bareknuckle," McGregor said. "Teeth come and go, just like a nose."
When McGregor's Final UFC Fight Could Happen
McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC deal and previously targeted International Fight Week in July 2027 for his final walk to the cage. That timeline hinges on his recovery from a torn ACL and meniscus suffered 69 seconds into his rematch with Max Holloway at UFC 329 in July. He underwent surgery and is expected out until at least next summer.
The Irishman told the crowd at Hype Italy that bareknuckle boxing "takes more courage" than MMA and promised fans he would compete himself once his UFC obligations are complete. BKFC president David Feldman has said he would bet the house on McGregor fighting for the promotion, provided he emerges from his UFC farewell without another major injury.
If everything goes according to plan, McGregor's bareknuckle debut could land in late 2027. First he must heal, then complete his UFC exit.
