McGregor Maintains UFC 329 Should Not Have Been Stopped

Conor McGregor says the referee stopped his UFC 329 main event against Max Holloway too early.

McGregor addressed the finish on his YouTube channel, insisting he never asked for the bout to be waved off after blowing out his knee on a switch kick that left him crumpled on the canvas. According to MMA Mania, McGregor claimed Holloway was the one who signaled for the stoppage while standing over him.

McGregor Says Holloway Called For Stoppage

"It wasn't me calling to finish it," McGregor said in the video. "If I fight you and you look for the ref, 'Ref, stop the fight!', who stops the fight? Don't stop. Finish the fight. You're the man calling for the fight to be stopped."

The 38-year-old acknowledged the kick was something he had been landing cleanly in training. He told viewers he still has work to do and is focused on what he called the greatest comeback in sports history, though he did not specify whether a rematch with Holloway is part of that plan.

McGregor added that he yearns for retribution. The former two-division champion has not said when he expects to fight next.
