McGregor Trolls Canelo Again, Hearn Reacts To A Canelo-McGregor Fight

In the latest boxing news, Conor McGregor has hit out at Canelo Alvarez once again, this time questioning his commercial pulling power.

The pair recently butted heads on social media after McGregor made reference to Alvarez’s defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr. During the course of that process, McGregor highlighted how he had landed more shots on Mayweather than what Alvarez had done.

Those comments were picked up by Alvarez, who vowed to beat McGregor with one hand. In response, the ‘Notorious’ fired back at the Mexican.

McGregor-Canelo

"I just need one hand with you and I don’t need to throw so many punches," Canelo said

"Saul you uncooked chicken, I’ll stomp the ligaments out of your knee joint. I don’t even need hands to end you, I’ll kick you raw pink, leave you looking like you were left out in the sun too long haha freckle arse. I will see you and we will see. Canelo is a cornflake, no sugar," McGregor stated

And now McGregor has questioned whether Alvarez is the super star of boxing following Showtime’s exit.

"@Canelo Canelo you are no draw to me, I don’t watch your matches. Showtime gone so bye canelo hahaha the Paul’s out sell you. Now grow some balls and fight for real cos nobody cares about the same old thing they have seen over and over. Or sit on sofa and wait for the real men to finish," McGregor revealed

The ‘Notorious’ has previously spoken about the possibility of fighting Alvarez. And yet, McGregor’s main focus appears to be on a return to the octagon.

The Irishman recently enrolled into USADA testing, the six month timeline of which would make McGregor available to fight in 2024 around April. And provided that goes ahead without any hiccups, a bout with Alvarez may be off for sometime.

Canelo’s Future

Meanwhile, Alvarez’s three-fight deal with the PBC has been called into question following Showtime’s exit from boxing.

The network announced that they would be pulling out of boxing at the end of 2023, leaving David Benavidez’s fight with Demetrius Andrade as the final bout on the network.

Although that may be the case, Alvarez’s recent three-fight deal with the PBC still has two more fights to go. Following Alvarez’s win over Jermell Charlo, there were naturally links with a fight against Benavidez and Terence Crawford.

But now that PBC is looking for a new network, where will Alvarez go next? As of now, PBC has reportedly been in talks with Amazon Prime and DAZN.

The latter network is something that Alvarez is aware of having boxed on DAZN numerous times before leaving to fight on Showtime.

And with Mexican Independence Day, as well as Cinco De Mayo coming up, Alvarez will be keen on having some mega fights.

Hearn On Canelo McGregor

In response to a fight with McGregor, Eddie Hearn gave his take on whether such a bout would be a good thing for the sport of boxing.

Hearn is aware of Alvarez, having promoted him on numerous fights for DAZN. And when it came to the possibility of a fight with McGregor, Hearn praised the ‘Notorious’ for having some boxing skills.

The promoter recalled McGregor’s performance against Mayweather where the Irishman managed to last ten rounds. While Alvarez would be the heavy favorite, Hearn drew parallels with Tyson Fury’s fight with Francis Ngannou. And in doing so, Hearn expected it to a big event regardless of the competitive nature of it.

"Don’t forget, he [McGregor] was an amateur boxer, he’s got boxing pedigree, and let’s be honest, although Floyd Mayweather did, with all due respect, play with him at times, he still held his own in there. He didn’t look like another MMA fighter just out of his depth.

"So I think he could fight again, and I think he would actually be in a decent boxing match, Conor McGregor, but it just goes back to the product.  It’s like Fury & Ngannou,” said Hearn. “An amazing event, with amazing hype, but you’ll, it’s a mismatch, and we got to move away from mismatches because what happens is you build the hype, and then they get in the ring, and everyone goes, ‘What a load of rubbish,’ and then you’re let down and then you move away from it," Hearn
