Conor McGregor injures leg on opening kick against Holloway
Conor McGregor's UFC return ended before it began Saturday night when a leg injury on his opening kick forced the fight with Max Holloway to be called off just over a minute into the first round.
The former two-division champion threw a kick in the opening seconds and immediately pulled up, unable to continue. According to ESPN, the bout was waved off at the 69-second mark after McGregor retired on the stool.
What the injury means for McGregor's comeback
The stoppage marks one of the shortest main events in recent UFC history and leaves McGregor's long-awaited return in tatters. He had not fought since his loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021, which also ended with a broken leg.
Holloway, the former featherweight champion, was awarded a technical submission victory. No immediate word on the severity of McGregor's injury or whether he will require surgery.
