McGregor And Holloway Face Off For The First Time

Conor McGregor and Max Holloway shared the same stage for the first time in thirteen years on Thursday — and both men arrived ready.

The UFC 329 faceoff gave the first real look at the dynamic heading into their July 11 welterweight rematch in Las Vegas/ McGregor was loud, combative, and unwilling to concede any ground on the historical narrative surrounding their 2013 meeting. Conor hit back at the argument that Holloway's youth excused the defeat thirteen years ago.

"People claim this man to be the No. 1 pound-for-pound featherweight of all time when I son'd him at that weight. Do you know that I've listened to people throughout the years say 'Holloway was only a kid back then?' Max had his sixth UFC fight. He was my second. Max, you're not going to lay a glove on me and even if you do lay a glove on me," McGregor

The point has a logic to it — McGregor was equally inexperienced in 2013 and still won convincingly. But the version of Holloway who lost that fight and the version walking into T-Mobile Arena on July 11 are separated by more than a decade of elite competition, two featherweight title reigns, a BMF championship, and 21 additional professional fights.

Holloway chose not to engage with any of it. Instead he picked up the "Mystic Mac" thread McGregor built his early career on and turned it back at him — delivering his own prediction for July 11 and already mapping out what comes after.

"I'm going to handle business and we're going to have a rematch at the end of the year. I'm going to be 1-0 against him and then we're going to rematch. That's what's going to happen," Holloway

The composure is a statement in itself. Holloway enters as a heavy favourite at -450 against McGregor's +330, a line that reflects the gap in recent activity and ring sharpness between the two men. He has nothing to prove by matching McGregor's energy and everything to gain.
