Mayweather Announces December Tune-Up Before Garcia Fight
Floyd Mayweather will take on Matty Floyd in an exhibition bout Dec. 19 in Bangkok as a warm-up for a planned WBC welterweight title shot against Ryan Garcia early next year, Bad Left Hook reports.
The 49-year-old last fought professionally nearly a decade ago. He reportedly views the Bangkok date as necessary preparation before stepping in with the 28-year-old champion, who has openly called for the matchup. Mayweather is said to have agreed in principle to challenge Garcia in February 2027.
Mayweather's Recent Fight Announcements
Over the past year, Mayweather has been linked to bouts against Mike Tyson, Mike Zambidis, and a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. None of those matchups have materialized or appear imminent.
The December exhibition represents Mayweather's first concrete fight date in months. Whether the Garcia title fight follows through remains to be seen, given the pattern of announcements that have not led to signed contracts.
