Islam Makhachev says he has at least three grueling welterweight title defenses left in him before he hangs up his gloves.

The dual-division champion, who broke Anderson Silva's UFC win streak record with his eighteenth straight victory over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 331, told Russian outlet Ushatayka that he is eyeing more difficult fights ahead but is unsure what milestone to chase next. "I don't really know what will be the next record for myself," he said, per MMA Mania. "Maybe for title fights? But it's a hard one to beat."

Chasing Jones's Title Defense Record Would Be Steep

Jon Jones holds the mark for most title bout wins at sixteen. Makhachev sits at seven. Another path would be Anderson Silva's nine finishes in championship fights, though Makhachev has only four and has gone to decision in both welterweight title bouts so far. "What I know is right now in my division, there are some very strong title contenders," he added. "Looking ahead, I think there will be at least three more exciting and very difficult fights in front of me."

Two more welterweight defenses would make Makhachev the longest-reigning two-division champion in UFC history. Amanda Nunes defended her featherweight title twice.
