Makhachev Enforces Team Haircut Rule On Teammates
Islam Makhachev enforced a longstanding team tradition by giving two training partners mandatory haircuts at his gym.
The UFC welterweight champion removed jewelry from the two men before trimming their curly hair down to a close crop, according to Sherdog. Makhachev posted the makeover to Instagram Stories with the caption "I swear you look better." Khabib Nurmagomedov also shared footage of the haircut session.
Nurmagomedov Team Tradition Dates To Abdulmanap Era
The close-crop hairstyle has been mandatory on Nurmagomedov's team since the rule was established by Khabib's late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. The team patriarch reportedly once kicked Makhachev out of the gym for showing up with long hair during training in the mountains of Dagestan.
Makhachev captioned a repost of Khabib's video with a pointed message. "They didn't have to go to Dagestan. Dagestan came for them," he wrote.
Makhachev defends his welterweight title for the first time against Ian Garry on August 15 at UFC 330 in Philadelphia. He brings a 28-1 record into the bout against the undefeated Garry, who stands at 17-1.
