Police Officer Hernandez Earns UFC Deal After DWCS Finish

Dade County police officer Luis Hernandez choked out Hugo Guillon in the second round at Dana White's Contender Series on Sept. 15 to earn a UFC contract.

Hernandez, fighting at middleweight, forced the tap with a rear-naked choke at 1:01 of the second frame at the Apex in Las Vegas. The finish capped a back-and-forth contest where Guillon landed an early judo throw but could not keep the unbeaten Florida officer on the mat.

Hernandez Survives Submission Attempt Before Finish

Guillon threatened with a submission early in Round 2, per Sherdog, but Hernandez scrambled to a dominant position and took his opponent's back. The choke came moments later. Hernandez improved to 8-0.

"Feels surreal," he said after the win. "It's been a long time coming with all the work that I have put in, all the sacrifice, with my family, my wife, my teammates and just the fruits of the labor finally gonna pay off."

The bout marked Week 6 of DWCS Season 10. Hernandez now joins the UFC middleweight roster.
