Khamzat Chimaev on RAF10 brawl: 'Stupid guys do stupid things'
Khamzat Chimaev has broken his silence on the brawl that erupted moments after he pinned Dillon Danis in 50 seconds at RAF10.
The former UFC middleweight champion told Red Corner MMA he anticipated Danis would pull something unorthodox during their freestyle wrestling bout. When Danis attempted a submission hold instead of wrestling clean, then kicked Chimaev after the ref separated them, both corners stormed the mat. "Stupid guys do stupid things," Chimaev said, per MMA Mania. "He knows he wasn't my level in wrestling so he felt that and then he tried to sub me. If he did a submission on me, I'm never going to train again."
Chimaev wanted the fight outside the venue
Chimaev said he planned to settle things away from the Real American Freestyle mat. "I was thinking [of] winning the match then outside I want to ask him, 'Let's go. Let's dance outside,'" he told the outlet. He claimed Danis declined a street fight challenge before the event because he knew security would be present. "That's why he was doing same stupid stuff," Chimaev added.
RAF leadership appeared more concerned about this altercation than the earlier scuffle between Arman Tsarukyan and Georgio Poullas, which led to an immediate rematch. Chimaev left the door open for a future encounter. "Whenever he wants, just send me a message [with] location, wherever you are and so I'm open," he said.
