Joshua's Trainer Warns 'Very Big Fish' Won't Forgive Mistakes
Anthony Joshua's trainer says a "very big fish" will capitalize on any mistakes his fighter makes, alluding to a potential showdown with Tyson Fury.
Iegor Golub posted on Instagram after Joshua's close call against Kristian Prenga in December, when the former unified heavyweight champion was dropped in the opening 20 seconds before rallying to stop the Albanian underdog in the second round. The trainer refrained from naming Fury directly but made clear who he meant, per The Ring.
Golub Reflects on Longest Two Minutes of His Career
Golub admitted the moments after the first knockdown felt endless. "A few moments passed after the first knockdown, and I glanced at the clock: 2:36 remained in the round," he wrote. "Those were probably the longest two and a half minutes of my life. I imagine they were for AJ as well."
The trainer credited Joshua's character for weathering the storm, noting the high stakes involved with a Fury fight on the line. But he also issued a warning to the Brit's next opponent, saying Joshua possesses devastating power and will not forgive errors either.
Joshua holds a 30-4 record with 26 knockouts and linked up with Golub and Team Usyk ahead of his win over Jake Paul. The Fury fight remains unsigned but has been discussed for months as the biggest all-British heavyweight clash available.
