Jones Advises McGregor After UFC 329 Injury

Jon Jones was cageside at UFC 329 when Conor McGregor's comeback ended in sixty-nine seconds.

Conor’s reaction in the aftermath was not about the knee or the fight or what comes next contractually. Jones framed McGregor's situation through the lens of faith and what genuine belief looks like under pressure.

"Conor has been publicly leaning on Christianity. And I feel as if when you're trying to resist the world and walk that narrow path, one of the steps is being asked how bad do you want it. When you're publicly talking about your love for God, and then you turn around and get injured, it would be really easy to go back to the bar with rage and animosity,” McGregor

Jones has personal experience with that kind of test. His career has been interrupted repeatedly by circumstances of his own making — failed drug tests, legal incidents, extended absences that had nothing to do with injuries and everything to do with choices. He has spoken at various points about faith as a stabilising force during those periods, and the perspective he is offering McGregor is shaped by that.

"So far, what I've seen from Conor is that he's still faithful, and that shows me a lot about his character. I've lost family members, I've embarrassed myself, and every time something goes wrong, I always give grace back to God. So that's one of the ways I look at Conor's story: can you hold true when the whole world is laughing at you? And so far, he's holding true. That means a lot to see that.

"Conor has already won. He has an opportunity to change so many lives in so many different ways. He's a really great example of how humans can be so imperfect, but so unique and special at the same time. I just hope he doesn't give up and that he continues to let his light shine,” Jones
