Jon Jones wants out of UFC contract to fight Francis Ngannou
Jon Jones said he wants out of his UFC contract to pursue a fight with Francis Ngannou, claiming promotion president Dana White has no interest in making a deal with the former heavyweight champion.
Jones made the comments during an appearance with Most Valuable Promotions, the boxing outfit co-founded by Jake Paul. "I don't think Dana's interested in doing business with Francis," Jones said, per Sherdog. "If we can get out of my contract, that'd be great."
Jones praises MVP as alternative to UFC
The heavyweight champion went on to express interest in working with MVP, suggesting the upstart promotion offers an appealing alternative to the UFC. Jones has repeatedly called for a superfight with Ngannou since the Cameroonian left the promotion in 2023 after a contract dispute.
Ngannou currently competes in the PFL's super fights division and holds a 0-2 boxing record after losses to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Jones has not fought since stopping Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November and remains under contract with the promotion.
The UFC has not commented on Jones' latest remarks. Jones is expected to face interim champion Tom Aspinall next if he continues fighting in the promotion.
