Joe Lauzon signs with BKFC after 27-fight UFC run
Former UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon has signed with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship after nearly two decades with the promotion, per Sherdog.
The 42-year-old Massachusetts native, who debuted at UFC 63 in 2006 with a 48-second knockout of Jens Pulver, left the organization following a contract lapse or release. Lauzon is expected to appear at BKFC 92 at Fenway Park in Boston on Aug. 29, where featherweight champion Kai Stewart defends against Harry Gigliotti in the main event.
Lauzon's bonus-collecting UFC career
Lauzon never challenged for a lightweight title but earned 15 post-fight bonuses during his run, including a double-bonus night when he submitted Jamie Varner in 2012. The Brockton product last competed in the Octagon in 2019, stopping Jonathan Pearce in 93 seconds in front of a home crowd to snap a three-fight skid.
A planned 2022 bout against Donald Cerrone fell apart twice due to Cerrone's illness and Lauzon's knee injury. Lauzon said after the Pearce win that he was ready to retire unless the right fight came along, and he remained in the UFC's drug testing pool in case he wanted to return.
BKFC 92 marks the promotion's first event at a Major League Baseball stadium.
