Joe Joyce Says He’s Neurodivergent

Joe Joyce has addressed concerns about his health, saying “I haven’t got CTE.”

The 40-year-old is set to keep fighting despite a run of losses and growing calls to retire. Joyce revealed he learned last year that he is neurodivergent and described the discovery as liberating after years of feeling misunderstood. He did not name a specific condition.

Neurodivergent is not a diagnosis in itself. It describes brains that process information, learn or communicate differently from the typical pattern, and can include autism, ADHD and dyslexia.

His slow speech has drawn attention as the punishment has piled up, with some suggesting he is punchy. Joyce spoke in a similar way in 2016, when he won Olympic silver in Rio.
