Amir Khan: Benn May Have Missed Window To Become Elite
Amir Khan says Conor Benn may have missed his chance to reach the top level after his loss to Ryan Garcia, but still has a worthwhile option in a Chris Eubank Jr. rubber match at 168 pounds.
Benn’s first major title shot last month was his return to welterweight, a division he hadn’t fought in since 2022. Garcia’s speed was the difference, dropping him with a right hand in round two before stopping him on his feet.
Questions followed over why Benn was given the opportunity, given his biggest win was over a faded Eubank last November.
“I think Conor may just miss the boat of being that top-level, elite fighter. But he’s good, don’t get me wrong, and he’s dangerous. He’s got power. For some reason, in that Ryan Garcia fight, it hurt me seeing it because he just couldn’t get in. It showed levels. He didn’t feel comfortable there. I think he should get the rematch with Eubank. That would be a fantastic fight. He’s already a name in UK boxing and he can fight some former world champions. But fighting the world champions or becoming world champion will be very difficult, especially at 147. I think his best chance would have been Barrios,” Khan
