Jermall Charlo visa denial scraps July 25 Australia return

James Wright
Senior Boxing Writer ·

Jermall Charlo's planned return to the ring has been canceled after Australian authorities denied him a visa.

The former middleweight champion was scheduled to face Koen Mazoudier on July 25 in Sydney, but the bout was scrapped when Charlo could not secure entry into the country, ESPN reports. The visa rejection marks another setback for Charlo, who has not fought since his decision win over Jose Benavidez Jr. in November 2021.

What's next for Charlo after visa rejection

The cancellation leaves Charlo without a scheduled opponent nearly four years removed from his last appearance. The 34-year-old has been inactive during a stretch that included legal troubles and promotional uncertainty following his split from Premier Boxing Champions.

Mazoudier, an Australian prospect, will need a new opponent if the July 25 card in Sydney proceeds without its main event. No rescheduled date for Charlo's comeback has been announced.
