Paul Vows To Dance With Canelo After Mbilli Win
Jake Paul believes he can exploit a weakness in Canelo Alvarez despite the Mexican star's dominant showing against Christian Mbilli on Saturday.
Alvarez reclaimed the WBC middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Mbilli in his first fight since losing to Terence Crawford last September. The 36-year-old controlled all 12 rounds, keeping Mbilli tentative with counter threats throughout the bout. Paul, who has long pursued a showdown with Alvarez, responded on social media shortly after the result.
Paul Spots Opening In Canelo's Return Performance
"Out of the ring for 13 months but still the same old Canelo. Respect. Did take a lot of punches though," Paul wrote, per BJ Penn. "We will dance my friend, we will dance."
Paul and Alvarez were previously in talks to meet but negotiations collapsed. Last May, Paul told Ariel Helwani he would have pulled off the upset, citing his sparring sessions with Vladimir Shishkin, who beat William Scull worse than Canelo did. Paul called Alvarez washed up and inactive at the time.
The YouTube star is scheduled to return to the ring on Christmas Eve in Dubai, his first bout since suffering a broken jaw against Anthony Joshua in late 2025. His opponent for the December card has not been announced.
