Islam Makhachev trolls Argentina fan after World Cup final loss
Islam Makhachev needled an Argentina supporter at the World Cup final after Spain claimed the trophy with a late goal in extra time.
The UFC welterweight champion attended the match in the United States alongside Khabib Nurmagomedov, manager Ali Abdelaziz, and others from their team, per Sherdog. Makhachev faces Ian Garry in his first welterweight title defense on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
Makhachev's viral exchange with Argentina fan
After Barcelona midfielder Ferran Torres scored the only goal to give Spain the win, Makhachev turned to an Argentina fan seated next to him. "Hey, second place. You happy?" he said, according to video posted on Abdelaziz's Instagram.
The fan kept clapping and insisted he was satisfied. "Yes, I'm happy. Because Ronaldo is not here. Messi is here," the supporter replied, referencing Lionel Messi's appearance in the final while Cristiano Ronaldo missed out.
Makhachev called the final lackluster in the same clip. "It was a very bad game, very boring, but it's OK," he said.
The exchange went viral on social media Sunday, with MMA outlets sharing the footage across platforms. Makhachev arrived in the U.S. less than a month out from his August date with Garry.
