Irene Aldana removed from UFC roster after title run
Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Irene Aldana is no longer on the promotion's roster, MMA Fighting confirmed Thursday.
Aldana, 38, last competed in September 2024 when she dropped a decision to Norma Dumont at the inaugural Noche UFC card inside The Sphere. Despite the loss, she remained ranked in the top 10 at 135 pounds until her removal this week.
Aldana's UFC title shot and octagon run
The Mexican fighter earned her crack at the belt in 2023 after consecutive wins over Yana Santos and Macy Chiasson. She challenged Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight strap at UFC 289, losing by unanimous decision in the main event.
Aldana departs the UFC with an 8-6 record inside the cage. Her octagon wins include victories over Brazilian veterans Ketlen Vieira, Bethe Correia and Karol Rosa.
No announcement has been made regarding Aldana's next move or whether she plans to continue competing elsewhere.
