Ilia Topuria guarantees two-minute KO of Justin Gaethje

UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria says Justin Gaethje will walk into a quick finish at the UFC White House card on May 31.

Topuria, who defends his 145-pound title against Gaethje in the main event, told media that the former lightweight champion's forward-marching approach plays straight into his hands. "I don't think, I know for a fact that if he moves forward, I am going to knock him out in two minutes," he said, per Sherdog. "I am too good for him."

Why Topuria expects early finish against Gaethje

The Georgian-Spanish champion has stopped four of his last five opponents, including Max Holloway in the third round to claim the belt last year. Gaethje has been dropped in four of his last five UFC appearances, including brutal knockout losses to Holloway and Dustin Poirier.

Topuria suggested Gaethje's reliance on volume striking — throwing punches in bunches while moving forward — creates openings for counter shots. The 28-year-old champion has built his reputation on precise power and timing, finishing opponents who press the action.

The bout marks Gaethje's first title fight outside lightweight and his first appearance since losing to Holloway at UFC 300 last April. Topuria has not competed since knocking out Holloway at UFC 308 in October.

The UFC White House card takes place May 31 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., with ceremonial weigh-ins scheduled for May 30.
