GFL Announces December Debut In Argentina After Failed Launches

Global Fight League will attempt its debut event for the third time, announcing a Dec. 18 card in Buenos Aires after scrapping two previous launch dates over financial troubles and missing funding.

The team-based promotion posted that its Miami Monsters will face the newly formed Buenos Aires Gauchos at Microestadio Club Atletico Lanús, according to MMA Mania. "The wait is over. The Global Fight League is here," the promotion wrote on social media. "A new era in MMA begins December 18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina."

GFL's Troubled History and Missing Revenue

The promotion originally scheduled back-to-back events for May 2025 featuring Urijah Faber versus Renan Barao 3, Anthony Pettis versus Benson Henderson 3, and Tony Ferguson versus Dillon Danis. Those cards collapsed when promised funding vanished. GFL had advertised a fighter-friendly model with 50-50 revenue sharing, health benefits, and retirement plans, but revenue splits proved difficult with no events held.

GFL resurfaced earlier this year and set an Oct. 17 card at Sam's Town Live in Las Vegas. That announcement disappeared from social media and the date passed without a fight. Four days later, the Nevada State Athletic Commission approved the promotion to hold an event in Las Vegas in 2027.

Former UFC bantamweight title challenger Marlon Moraes has been attached to the Miami Monsters roster. Moraes ended a seven-fight losing streak with a decision win over Maximiliano Perez in August. Complete matchups and broadcast details for the December card are expected in the coming weeks.
