Pimblett Teammate Staines Scores Vicious Slam KO

George Staines earned a UFC contract with a violent first-round slam knockout of Loai Abushaar at Contender Series on Tuesday night at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The undefeated featherweight trains alongside Paddy Pimblett at Next Generation MMA Liverpool and moved to 11-0 with the finish.

The bout opened with leg kicks before Staines closed distance and dragged Abushaar to the canvas. Abushaar worked back to his feet, but Staines immediately lifted him and delivered a mat return that left the fighter unconscious, per MMA Mania. The referee intervened after Staines landed a few follow-up punches on the already-stopped opponent.

What The Win Means For Staines's UFC Future

The 26-year-old prospect turned professional just three years ago but has already competed for Cage Warriors and OKTAGON MMA. He now owns five finishes across his eleven victories — three submissions and two knockouts for a 45 percent finishing rate.

Staines trains with Pimblett and fellow unbeaten prospect Luke Riley at the Liverpool gym. The slam marked the biggest win of his career and should fast-track his UFC debut under Dana White and matchmakers.

Abushaar saw his four-fight win streak end with the loss. The talented featherweight remains a prospect who could reach the UFC in the future, just not off this Contender Series appearance. Staines is expected to receive his official UFC contract and debut assignment in the coming weeks.
