Garry Eyes Decade Of Domination Ahead Of UFC 330

Ian Machado Garry has mapped out the next decade of his career ahead of his welterweight title shot against Islam Makhachev at UFC 330.

The Irish contender faces Makhachev this Saturday in Philadelphia with a chance to capture UFC gold for the first time. Speaking at media day, Garry said he wants to carry the sport through his next 10 years as a dominant champion, according to MMA Junkie.

Garry's Vision For Welterweight Title Reign

"I'm talking about a decade of domination," Garry said. "I'm 28 years of age. (Alexander) Volkanovski is still champion of the world. He's 38. Justin Gaethje just won a title in his third attempt. He's 38 years of age. I have 10 years of domination in this sport against the next best opponent every single time."

Garry arrives at UFC 330 after defeats of former champion Belal Muhammad, Carlos Prates, Geoff Neal, and Michael Page. His only loss came in a five-round decision against Shavkat Rakhmonov in late 2024. Makhachev enters as a heavy favourite and has not tasted defeat in over a decade.

The challenger also outlined his philosophy on title defenses, per BJ Penn. Garry said he wants to face the most deserving contender each time, a standard he believes the UFC has not always met. The bout kicks off Saturday at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
