Ryan Garcia has dismissed Conor Benn as nothing more than an average fighter who does not deserve a shot at his WBC welterweight title.
The American, who holds the WBC strap at 147 pounds, told the BBC that Benn lacks the credentials for a championship opportunity. "He's an average fighter," Garcia said, according to the BBC's coverage of the buildup to their scheduled bout.

Garcia No-Show Adds Tension To Benn Clash
The comments come after Garcia failed to appear at a scheduled face-off with Benn, prompting accusations from the British fighter's camp that the champion was bottling it. Benn has also spoken publicly about the grueling nature of his weight cut, describing himself as dragged down to the pits of hell during the process.
Garcia and Benn are set to meet in a welterweight clash that has generated significant interest despite the champion's dismissive assessment of his opponent's abilities. The WBC title is expected to be on the line when the two finally share the ring.
