Rodriguez Dethrones Yafai To Claim WBC Interim Flyweight Title

Francisco Rodriguez Jr., stunned Galal Yafai to become the WBC Interim Flyweight Champion in a dominant unanimous decision: 119-108, 119-108, 118-109.

Yafai was making his first defense, having acquired the title with a stoppage win against Sunny Edwards. Yafai’s win sent the latter into retirement, as he extended his record to 9-0. Yafai’s stock had increased massively, as it was his third stoppage on the spin, his seventh overall. Meanwhile, Rodriguez had a 39-6-1 record. 27 of those were by stoppage, however, he had fallen short against Kazuto Ioka, Junto Nakatani, and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez. This time around, Rodriguez delivered. He dominated Yafai to give the latter his first loss. Here is how the fight played out.
