Professional Career

 

Rodriguez Jr. burst onto the professional scene with a series of knockout wins. His debut on October 2, 2010, saw him achieve a first-round TKO against Erick Ventura in Monterrey. This early success continued, with highlights such as a first-round TKO victory over Artemio Garcia on September 15, 2011, in Rosarito. On April 19, 2013, Rodriguez Jr. captured the vacant NABF light flyweight title, stopping Ivan Rodriguez in Monterrey. March 22, 2014, marked a significant milestone for Rodriguez Jr. when he won the WBO mini flyweight title with a tenth-round TKO against Merlito Sabillo in Monterrey. He further solidified his reputation by unifying the WBO and IBF mini flyweight titles on August 9, 2014, defeating Katsunari Takayama via unanimous decision in Monterrey.

 

Rodriguez Jr.’s title defenses included a notable draw with Jomar Fajardo in the Philippines on November 15, 2014, followed by a unanimous decision win in their rematch on January 31, 2015, in Tuxtla Gutierrez. On July 11, 2015, he faced Donnie Nietes in Cebu City, Philippines, for the WBO and The Ring light flyweight titles, but suffered a unanimous decision loss. His career continued with high-profile fights, including a split decision loss to Moisés Fuentes on December 5, 2015, in Tecate, Mexico.

 

Rodriguez Jr. secured a series of victories, highlighted by a TKO win against Johnny Michel Garcia on July 23, 2016, in Cancún. A technical decision victory over Hajime Nagai on February 4, 2017, in Cancún was significant, as an accidental elbow forced Nagai to stop. His success in the ring continued with a win over Yohei Tobe on June 9, 2018, in Monterrey, earning him the vacant WBC Latino Silver super flyweight title. In recent years, Rodriguez Jr. faced some tough matches, including a loss to Kazuto Ioka for the WBO super flyweight title on September 1, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. He bounced back with wins, such as a unanimous decision against Erick Omar Lopez on July 16, 2022, in Torreon, Mexico.
