Fury On Facing David Benavidez

Tyson Fury has floated David Benavidez as a potential replacement if his fight with Anthony Joshua collapses, insisting Benavidez would actually pose a bigger threat.

"I already heard last night that they were trying for replacements. All the big names, like David Benavidez. What a fight that'd be. That would be unbelievable. But the only thing is with David Benavidez is [he's] about four to five times harder [a] fight than Joshua. I'll take it because that's what I do," Fury

Fury says he was en route to Wednesday's press conference when word came the Joshua fight was in jeopardy, placing blame on Joshua's side over objections to Dana White's involvement. He also predicted Benavidez would stop Joshua in around three rounds.

The idea faces obvious hurdles — Benavidez is set to face Michal Cieslak at cruiserweight on December 12, the day after Fury-Joshua is scheduled in Cardiff, with a win positioning him for a fight with Jai Opetaia. Jumping to heavyweight on short notice to face Fury would mean abandoning that path.
