Fury vs Joshua Reportedly Close With December Cardiff Date

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua may finally step into the ring together, with Cardiff emerging as the frontrunner to host their heavyweight showdown in December.

Bad Left Hook reports that Principality Stadium is now the leading contender for the bout on either December 4 or 11, pending approval of an extended curfew by Welsh officials. The curfew issue had previously derailed plans for London's Wembley Stadium, the originally agreed venue.

What Shifted Cardiff To The Front

The venue scramble began when Turki Alalshikh, whose backing is financing the fight, and Netflix pushed for Madison Square Garden in New York. Matchroom and Joshua's camp rejected the move, citing their commitment to a UK location. Cardiff's covered Principality Stadium solves weather concerns and gives Joshua familiar ground. He stopped Carlos Takam there in 2017 and outpointed Joseph Parker in 2018, making him 3-0 in the Welsh capital as a professional.

Fury has never fought in Cardiff but has said throughout the negotiations that he would fight anywhere. His team told Sky Sports that three venues remain in play, including Wembley, Cardiff, and what is believed to be MSG.

Joshua carries a 30-4 record with 27 knockouts into the potential matchup. Fury stands at 36-2-1 with 25 stoppages. An official announcement confirming the date and venue is expected in the coming days.
