Fans React To Crawford’s Physique – ‘It's Over'

Fans have reacted to Terence Crawford’s physique ahead of his Undisputed Super Middleweight fight against Canelo Alvarez on September 13.

Crawford moves up two weight divisions in an attempt to make history by becoming a three-weight undisputed champion. The narrative heading into this bout is that the additional weight will slow Crawford down, while Canelo’s experience at 168 will prove too much. Crawford has not boxed at 160 or 168 to prepare himself, while the sole Israil Madrimov win at 154 saw Crawford get hit more than usual.

The pound-for-pound superstar posted images of his physique from his training camp. The Omaha native looked incredibly lean, defined, and powerful. The pictures have sparked fears among fans that Canelo could be heading for his toughest test in years.

By adding a significant amount of muscle to his frame, Crawford has likely increased his punching power. His strength and conditioning coach, Chet Fortune, confirmed this, stating that "putting on muscle doesn’t actually mean that you’re going to be slower. But you punch a little harder." The added weight could improve his durability, allowing him to better absorb Canelo’s punishing body shots and hooks.

The biggest risk of Crawford’s physical transformation is the potential for it to compromise his speed and endurance. Adding a significant amount of muscle to his frame, as other fighters have done in the past, could slow him down and make him less agile. For example, when Mikey Garcia moved up two weight classes to fight Errol Spence Jr., he lost his speed and was easily out-boxed by the bigger man. Fans had plenty to say.
