Elisha Ellison dismisses Gable Steveson's Jon Jones camp ahead of UFC 329
Elisha Ellison says training with Jon Jones won't save Gable Steveson when they meet at UFC 329.
Steveson makes his UFC debut against Ellison on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to Sherdog. The 2021 Olympic wrestling gold medalist enters as a massive -2500 favorite at some sportsbooks, but Ellison remains unbothered by the odds or the caliber of Steveson's training partners.
Ellison calls Steveson green despite Jones camp
Speaking at UFC 329 media day, Ellison questioned whether three professional fights provide sufficient preparation for the Octagon, regardless of Olympic pedigree. "Anybody coming in, especially to a big promotion in the UFC, 3-0, you would be a fool not to call him green," Ellison said, per the report. "It doesn't mean I'm writing him off."
When asked about Steveson training alongside heavyweight champion Jones, Ellison dismissed the advantage. "Jon Jones isn't in the Octagon," he added. "So, it doesn't matter to me."
Ellison enters the bout 5-2 overall but coming off a first-round knockout loss in his UFC debut last year. The former police officer has never seen a second round in his career. Steveson owns three straight first-round finishes since turning pro.
UFC 329 airs July 11 from Las Vegas.
