Dubois Eyes Five Potential Fights After Wardley Win
Daniel Dubois has a crowded list of potential opponents following his title defense against Fabio Wardley last Saturday at London's O2 Arena.
The WBO heavyweight champion could target unification bouts or high-profile voluntary defenses as he maps out 2027. Ring Magazine broke down five realistic options for the 27-year-old Londoner, who has fought twice in five months and may rest through year's end.
Unification With Kabayel Appears Most Likely
WBC titleholder Agit Kabayel defends his belt against Nelson Hysa on November 28 in Dusseldorf. If Kabayel wins as expected, a spring unification with Dubois becomes the most straightforward path. Both fighters share promotional ties with Queensberry and could sidestep mandatory obligations to make the bout happen. Kabayel has emerged as Germany's leading heavyweight, and the matchup would sell in both the UK and German markets.
IBF champion Filip Hrgovic appeared ringside Saturday and confronted Dubois after the Wardley stoppage, but Hrgovic is already committed to facing Frank Sanchez in Croatia during the first quarter of 2027. A clash with Dubois could materialize in spring if Hrgovic or Sanchez wins and agrees to a quick turnaround.
Joseph Parker sits at No. 6 in the WBO rankings and represents a credible voluntary defense. The former WBO champion cleared his VADA suspension one year ago and is expected to announce his next move within weeks, according to Frank Warren. Parker has faced Joshua, Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora twice, and Wardley in recent years.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are set to fight for the WBA belt on December 11 in Cardiff. Dubois would reportedly jump at the chance to face either man in the first half of 2027, particularly if Fury claims the WBA strap and agrees to a Wembley unification in April. Dubois stopped Joshua inside five rounds in their 2024 meeting.
Deontay Wilder remains on the board despite turning 40. The former WBC champion last fought in April against Chisora in London and sits at No. 9 in the WBO rankings. Wilder has been linked to the Fury-Joshua undercard but could pursue another title shot if that placement falls through.
