RAF Exec Confirms Danis Not Banned After Chimaev Brawl
Dillon Danis will compete again for Real American Freestyle despite the chaotic finish to his match against Khamzat Chimaev in June, according to promotion co-founder Chad Bronstein.
Chimaev beat Danis by pinfall at RAF 10 in St. Louis, but the finish turned violent when Danis threw a kick from his back after the bell. Chimaev kicked back and both corners rushed the mat. The melee raised questions about whether Danis would face disciplinary action from the upstart wrestling promotion.
Danis Escapes Ban After RAF 10 Incident
Bronstein told MMA Fighting that no ban is coming. "Yeah, you'll see Dillon Danis back in RAF," he said. "I don't need to ban Dillon because we stepped in." He added that Danis has been respectful to the organization behind the scenes despite the incident requiring internal conversations.
Chimaev is already scheduled for his next RAF appearance, facing former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in the main event of RAF Moscow on Sept. 5. Bronstein said Chimaev will wrestle multiple times before year's end and praised his professionalism heading into the upcoming stretch.
No timeline has been announced for Danis' return to the promotion.
