Devin Haney camp ready to face Shakur Stevenson at catchweight
Devin Haney's team is prepared to finalize a fight with Shakur Stevenson at a catchweight, according to trainer Bill Haney.
Bill Haney addressed the matchup during an Instagram live stream this week, responding to fan questions about the bout that has been discussed for years. Bad Left Hook reports that the elder Haney confirmed his son's willingness to meet Stevenson at 144 pounds, a weight between the junior welterweight and welterweight limits.
Bill Haney says 144-pound catchweight falls within welterweight range
"144 is in the welterweight division," Bill Haney said, per the report. "Welterweight division is between 140 and 147. Deebo said he wants to do it, I mean he's the boss. 144 is what [Shakur] said he wanted to do. He said we got to sit down like businessmen and make it happen, right? Well, we already sat down like businessmen, we're ready to make it happen, like businessmen."
The younger Haney, who beat Brian Norman Jr by decision last November, has been trading words with Stevenson on social media in recent weeks. Bill Haney indicated the matchup has been brewing for seven to ten years and takes priority over other potential opponents, including Keyshawn Davis, who has also called for a welterweight fight with Haney.
No date or venue has been announced for a potential Haney-Stevenson bout.
