Derek Chisora wants Deontay Wilder rematch after split loss
Derek Chisora is not done yet. The veteran heavyweight, who dropped a split decision to Deontay Wilder in London this past April, says a rematch is on the table and could land on a Saudi-backed card later this year.
According to Bad Left Hook, Chisora confirmed that adviser Turki Alalshikh wants to put the fight together and "do something big" for the second meeting. "The rematch is in the cards," Chisora said. "So I said 'you know what, it's about time you started giving me some of that money.'"
Why Chisora is delaying retirement
That April fight was supposed to mark Chisora's 50th and final bout. He got the home crowd in London but not the result, and the lingering dissatisfaction appears to have shifted his timeline. "Listen, you know retirement is hard," he said. "There's certain things we don't speak about in life called retirement. People think when you retire you go home. No, it's hard."
With neither Wilder nor Chisora holding viable paths to a world title shot at this stage, a rematch makes financial sense for both sides. If Alalshikh bankrolls it, expect the fight to land in Riyadh sometime in the fall.
