Danis On McGregor After UFC 329 Injury
Conor McGregor was in a dark place after his ACL tear derailed his comeback at UFC 329, but longtime training partner Dillon Danis says the former two-division champion is now locked in on a return.
McGregor suffered the injury seconds into his fight with Max Holloway earlier this month, ending a five-year absence from competition before it truly began. According to Danis, who spoke to MMA Fighting, the immediate aftermath was predictably grim. "Obviously after the fight you could only imagine how someone could feel coming [back] after five years and that happening that fast," Danis said. "He was in a dark place. Any human being will."
McGregor Isolated In LA With 24/7 Nurse
Danis reports that McGregor has since regrouped following ACL reconstruction surgery. The Irishman is reportedly isolated in Los Angeles with round-the-clock medical care, completing rehab exercises and blocking out noise about whether he can fight again. "Now his head's a lot better. He has a 24/7 nurse with him," Danis told the outlet. "There's something about Conor that [when] he puts his mind towards something, he gets it done."
McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC contract and has floated a return during International Fight Week 2027, typically held in July. Danis says he speaks to McGregor nearly every day and believes the former champion is doing everything required to make that timeline realistic. "He is focused right now," Danis said. "I talk to him almost everyday and he's in a good spot right now."
No opponent or date has been announced for McGregor's next bout.
