Dana White hints at helping Floyd Mayweather after $175M loss
Dana White suggested he might be open to working with Floyd Mayweather again following reports that the retired boxer lost $175 million through an investment fraud scheme.
Mayweather filed suit in a New York court against a former investment manager for fraud and breach of fiduciary duty, according to ESPN. Asked about the situation at the Zuffa Boxing 8 post-fight press conference Sunday, White acknowledged he had discussed the matter with Mayweather but said the full story remains unclear. "I've talked to him about it, but I don't know enough about it," White told reporters, per MMA Fighting. "You hear all of these different stories. I think you have to wait to see how this thing's going to play out in court for him."
Could White and Mayweather reunite for another event?
White and Mayweather previously partnered on the 2017 crossover bout between Mayweather and Conor McGregor, which ended in a tenth-round stoppage win for the boxer. That fight marked Mayweather's final professional appearance, though he has since competed in several exhibitions, including a no-decision against Logan Paul in June 2021.
The UFC president called the reported financial loss part of a troubling pattern among elite athletes. "When somebody works as hard as he did and amasses the type of wealth that he had and they lose it, or it gets stolen, or whatever the deal is, it's horrible," White said. "And it happens a lot in professional sports." Then, with a grin, he added: "So who knows? Anything is possible. Maybe we could do something and figure it out for him."
White did not elaborate on what form a collaboration might take. No fight or event has been announced.
