Dana White On Barcelos' Hospital Status After UFC Vegas 121

UFC president Dana White says Raoni Barcelos is conscious and walking after the bantamweight lost consciousness during his main event against Raul Rosas Jr. at UFC Vegas 121.

Barcelos was ahead on the scorecards entering the fifth round at Meta APEX on Sept. 26 when he appeared to lose consciousness during a wrestling exchange against the cage. The 39-year-old Brazilian was stretchered from the Octagon and transported to a hospital, where he regained consciousness. White told reporters at the Contender Series post-fight press conference that Barcelos is lucid and awaiting test results to determine what caused the episode.

White Details Medical Protocols At UFC Vegas 121

White said all pre-fight medicals were triple-checked before the event, per Sherdog. He confirmed that six doctors and three ambulances were on site when Barcelos lost consciousness, and that the fighter was taken directly to a Level I trauma center rather than a standard hospital. "All the pre-fight medicals were triple-checked; everything was good," White said. "There were six doctors here that night, three ambulances. He was taken straight to the trauma center, not to Valley. Everything was done the right way and the outcome was good."

White said his primary concern is Barcelos' health, not whether the veteran will fight again. Test results are pending to determine what caused the loss of consciousness during the wrestling exchange.
