Cruz-Davis Rematch Reportedly Unlikely

The Isaac Cruz vs. Gervonta Davis rematch is no longer happening.

Cruz, who had been considered the leading candidate for Davis's fall return given their competitive 2021 meeting, is now heading in a different direction — and has made a significant change in his corner to mark the shift, linking up with trainer Eddy Reynoso.

The 2021 loss to Davis went the distance and earned him significant credit for pressing the fight — but he is now pointing himself in a different direction, with new guidance and a new chapter ahead.

The pairing with Reynoso is a notable development in its own right. The Mexican trainer has built one of the sport's most respected camps and guided Canelo Alvarez through the peak of his career. Cruz joining that setup signals genuine ambition about where he wants to go next, separate from whatever Davis decides to do with his return.

For Davis, the removal of Cruz from the picture opens the field back up at a time when two significantly more compelling names are already circling.
