Crawford Says He Must Face Spence In 2024 Before Any Other Fights

In the latest boxing news, Terence Crawford has admitted that he must deal with Errol Spence Jr. in his rematch before he can consider other fights later down the line.

Bud created history by becoming the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era with a ninth-round knockout of Spence. The victory made him undisputed in a second weight class following his achievements at 140. Following the fight, Spence activated his rematch clause with the weight class and date yet to be agreed.

That has held up the rematch, especially since Showtime confirmed that they would not be broadcasting boxing at the end of the year. That has naturally disrupted Bud’s plans on becoming undisputed in a third weight class. He had been linked with a fight against Jermell Charlo, who was undisputed at 154.

However, since then, the American has been stripped of his WBO belt after he chose to fight Canelo Alvarez rather than face his mandatory Tim Tszyu. In addition, the boxer vacated his IBF belt with an increasing chance that he could move up to 160.

At the same time, a fight with Canelo appears unlikely since the Mexican has ruled it out. The focus appears to be on giving boxing fans a mega clash with David Benavidez instead. That has left Crawford with nowhere else to go for now.

Crawford Vs. Spence

"I’ve got the rematch that I got to do before I can do another fight. We just waiting on that. They going to shape and write whatever they’re going to write regardless. They going to make you out who you’re not or who you are or what they think of you. So, it really don’t matter what I do, what I say, or how I carry. I’ve been carrying it the same way my whole career, and for people to make it seem like I changed and I’m a different person is people that just now jumped on the bandwagon to follow Terence Crawford," Crawford said

Crawford Has Skills

Elsewhere, Crawford showed off his skills outside of the boxing ring as he won the MVP award during a basketball game for charity.

The first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era was at Santa Monica College, California, to take part in Team Watson’s Celebrity Charity Basketball Game. The aim of the event was to ensure that money could be raised for the LifeDriven Foundation. The organization aims to support adults who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as to offer support to the families concerned. And by the looks of it, Crawford can hold his own on the basketball court.

In the following clip, Bud can be seen making his way through the defense of the opposition to score three-pointers, as well as scoring some lay-ups in the process. And once the game was over, Crawford posted the victory celebrations.
