Crawford On Spence's Camp Claims

Terence Crawford has been retired for months, but he is not letting Errol Spence Jr.'s training camp narrative stand without a response.

Crawford addressed Spence's claim that an incomplete preparation — limited sparring due to an injury, a decision by Spence's father to shut down sparring entirely in the final weeks — contributed to the outcome of their July 2023 undisputed welterweight title fight.

"I just can't grasp myself going into a fight unprepared. Especially against this guy that people been putting me against for five years,” Crawford

Crawford's position is that the fight's result reflected the difference between the two fighters, not the state of one man's camp. Whether Spence sparred or did not spar, whether his ribs were injured or healthy, the night ended with Spence knocked down twice and stopped in the ninth round.

The interview covered considerably more ground than the Spence exchange. Crawford revealed that he had already decided to retire before the Canelo Alvarez fight, with only a small circle of people aware of the decision going in.
