Conor McGregor toe injury footage shows Chandler fight collapse
New footage released by the UFC shows the training accident that broke Conor McGregor's toe and forced him to pull out of his scheduled fight with Michael Chandler in 2024.
The clip, which appeared in the UFC 329 Countdown video, captures the moment McGregor threw a teep kick and immediately recoiled in pain. According to the Irishman, his sparring partner was not wearing shin guards at the time. McGregor pulled out of the Chandler bout at UFC 303 just 16 days before the June fight date.
McGregor blames concentration lapse for training injury
"There were lapses in concentration in training," McGregor said in the video, per Sherdog. "I'm the lead of the training. So if I'm lapsing in concentration, it filters down. And that is what took place. The training partner had no protection. Next thing you know, bang, broke my f*cking toe."
McGregor has not fought since breaking his leg in a trilogy loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. The former two-division champion spent over a year teasing the Chandler matchup, with Chandler waiting on the sidelines for the bout to materialize.
McGregor is now scheduled to face Max Holloway at UFC 329 on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, marking a five-year absence from competition.
