Claressa Shields returns to the ring in her hometown of Detroit to make the first defence of her undisputed women’s heavyweight championship against Lani Daniels.
Shields’ (16-0, 3 KO’s) résumé reads exceptionally well in women’s boxing. The self-proclaimed "GWOAT" (Greatest Woman of All Time) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a five-weight world champion. Most notably, she is the only boxer in history, male or female, to have become undisputed champion in three separate weight classes.
Standing across from her will be New Zealand’s Lani Daniels (11-2-2, 1 KO), a game but clearly overmatched challenger looking to pull off one of the biggest upsets in women’s boxing history this weekend.

Claressa Shields vs Lani Daniels: Analysis

While Shields only has three knockouts on her record, her dominance comes from technical skills and relentless work rate. She overwhelms opponents with punch volume, accuracy, and footwork. Even against strong competition, she rarely loses a round, let alone a fight.
Her shot selection, speed, and ring IQ have made her virtually untouchable in the pro ranks, and she is the clear favourite in this one, which comes as no surprise considering her outstanding achievements in the sport at just 30 years of age.
Daniels is tough and determined, but she lacks the elite-level experience, speed, and output that Shields brings. With only one knockout to her name, it’s unlikely she has the power to keep Shields off her. The New Zealander may hold a world title at heavyweight, but stepping through the ropes against Shields is another matter entirely.
Shields vs Daniels: Prediction & Betting Tips
Daniels deserves credit for taking the fight and carrying momentum from her recent win streak, but Shields is simply on another level to any woman on the planet. Her ring IQ, speed, technique, footwork and timing are far superior, and this will show very early on in this upcoming fight.
Shields should retain her status as the undisputed queen of women’s boxing in front of a raucous hometown crowd. Naturally, the bookies automatically favour a decision victory for the GWOAT, but I’m thinking the American can force a technical knockout in this one.
The last time Shields fought in Detroit, she destroyed her opponent in two rounds to win the WBC and WBF heavyweight titles, as well as the WBO light-heavyweight belt. And I’m willing to take the chance on her overwhelming her opponent again.
My pick is Claressa Shields to win by knockout or technical knockout at odds of 2.63 (Bet Goodwin).
