Christian Leroy Duncan Stops Cannonier, Eyes Top 10 at UFC Oklahoma City
Christian Leroy Duncan scored the biggest win of his UFC run at UFC Oklahoma City, outpointing former title challenger Jared Cannonier over three rounds to stretch his winning streak to five fights.
The Englishman showcased his striking range against the 42-year-old veteran, repeatedly connecting with spinning attacks that wobbled and dropped Cannonier multiple times during the co-main event. Despite the punishment, Cannonier survived to the final bell, earning Duncan's respect for his durability.
Duncan Calls for Top 10 Opponent After Cannonier Win
"I knew Cannonier was tough, but for him to take some of the shots and keep fighting, it surprised me," Duncan said after the fight, per Sherdog. "He's called 'The Gorilla' for a reason."
With a former title contender now on his resume, Duncan believes he has earned a ranked opponent next. The former Cage Warriors champion has won eight of ten UFC bouts after starting 3-2, with recent victories over Roman Dolidze, Marco Tulio, Eryk Anders, and Andrey Pulyaev alongside the Cannonier decision.
"I think that solidifies my place in the middleweight division," Duncan added. "Potentially a single digit next to the name, and some big fights ahead and big names."
The UFC has not announced Duncan's next opponent or a date for his return to the cage.
