Canelo-Mbilli Rescheduled

Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli will now meet on October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The fight had been scheduled for September 12 before a postponement was announced roughly three weeks ago without a specific explanation. Canelo clarified the reason, saying family matters required his attention and he was not in a position to enter training camp.

"Some problems in my family came up. I wasn't ready to go into training camp because I needed to deal with that first,” Canelo

Canelo is challenging for the WBC middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight title, a belt that exists in its current form because of the circumstances surrounding his last fight. Terence Crawford defeated Canelo in September 2025 to become undisputed super middleweight champion, then retired — fragmenting the unified titles and creating vacancies that benefited fighters in the division. Mbilli was elevated to full WBC champion from interim status following Crawford's exit. Mbilli's last competitive appearance came on the undercard of Canelo versus Crawford, where he fought Lester Martinez to a draw.

September 12 remains a significant date on the boxing calendar despite the Canelo postponement, with Ryan Garcia defending his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn in a Zuffa Boxing event on Paramount+.
