Canelo Alvarez vs. Mbilli postponed to Oct. 31 after family issue

Canelo Alvarez's planned championship bout against Christian Mbilli has been pushed back six weeks to Oct. 31, the former undisputed middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight champion confirmed this week.

The WBC 168-pound title fight, originally scheduled for Sept. 12 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was postponed earlier this month after family matters kept Alvarez from starting camp on time. "Some problems in my family came up," Alvarez told Ariel Helwani. "I wasn't ready to go into training camp because I needed to deal with that first."

The bout will remain in Saudi Arabia and is expected to stream on DAZN pay-per-view and the platform's Ultimate tier. Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) has not fought since dropping a unanimous decision to Terence Crawford last September, a loss that cost him the undisputed middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight crown. Crawford retired after that victory, elevating Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) from interim WBC champion to full titleholder.

Sept. 12 will still feature a major boxing card, as Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn are slated to meet in a welterweight title fight under the Zuffa Boxing banner that night. Alvarez's rescheduled Halloween date sets up a busy fall stretch for the Mexican star, who last captured a world title in 2024.
